Anyone who has read my book Beyond the Sun will be aware of the importance Rudolf Steiner had to the early Whare Ra and Robert Felkin.
Felkin needed Steinerâs Rosicrucian links to provide him with the authority to operate.  Mathers had obtained mythical links to the European Rosicrucian movement which apparently gave him the rights to work higher-level grades within the AO. Felkin matched this with his meetings with Steiner who had connections to the Rosicrucian orders derived from Alois Mailander. Felkin also obtained âprocessesâ from Steiner (which were exercises) and the âlinkâ ritual which effectively gave him a connection to the Mailander-inspired Rosicrucian movement.
However, it has been bought to my attention that various Steiner anthro masonic groups, who also look to Mailander, are âover-egging the puddingâ for Steinerâs involvement with Whare Ra and are casting him as the Orderâs teacher.
Felkin kept the fact of the identity behind his âconnectionâ to European Rosicrucians secret. He did not openly celebrate Steiner to any extent.
There is nothing from my researches which suggests that Steinerâs role in Whare Ra teaching was particularly great or long-lasting. Whare Ra remained an entirely Golden Dawn magical operation. The processes were given out during a Whare Ra personâs magical journey (with the last being seen at 7=4) and the link eventually ended up being repurposed after the 7=4.
These might have been the highest teaching of Steinerâs system, but Felkin gave them out mostly for students of the outer order of the Golden Dawn (although some did end up in the second order).
Not only were the processes the only aspect of Steinerâs teaching which was used by Whare Ra, but they were also optional and soon fell into disuse. A letter from Mrs Felkin after her husbandâs death says that some Whare Ra people had a problem with using the processes and got little out of them. By her death, they had fallen completely into disuse.
As for the source of Felkinâs teaching, that remained Golden Dawn with his own papers added based on his own inner contacts.
Dear Mr. Farrel,
You think, that Felkin only needed Steiner “to provide him with the authority to operate.” This is what London wishes. But not the reality. – As You only affirm or pretend (?) Your ^Statement without giving any proof or evidence, I declare herewith: You are in error. I will nevertheless read Your book, which I will try to buy.
Yours sincerely
Rolf Speckner (Hamburg)
Hi Rolf. You seem unaware of the people involved in Felkin’s Whare RA. Nick, like quite a few others, was trained by the last adepts of Whare Ra in magic. Zalewski, Fuller, Nick, even Lenny, had teachers who directly knew and spoke with the Felkins about such matters. Why would anyone in Germany know what happened at Whare Ra in New Zealand?
The Fekins explained it quite well. Plus, Mr Felkin had his own sun master (Ara Ben Shemesh) for new material, and not Steiner. Feklin’s higher degree rituals have no influence from Steiner on them. That is quite obvious then that Steiner wasn’t having this big influence in N.Z as you imagine. Yes they did circulate the temple legend but not much more. Actually, Alice Bailey had a far bigger influence on Feklin than Steiner. Her lectures on the Rays and Astrology became core reading for initiates alongside lectures on the Zohar. Even my own teacher spoke to people who knew the Felkin’s and explained all this. As an outsider to Whare Ra it is you that is wrong on this matter. Samuel Robinson.
I believe Steiner would have said:
“You can teach them, but you can’t teach them much…”
Shalom.
