Stele of Divine Reconciliation or Attunement

This Stele appears in PGM 1167 and does not have a title but had a note which said that it was “useful for everything” and “could deliver someone from death.” It came with a cryptic warning “that the magician should not investigate what is in it.”

The latter statement should be a gift for those modern magicians who take the PGM literally, do not think about things,  want to charge expensive trinkets so that they can obtain abundance through having knowledge and communion with their holy guardian unicorns.

However, what is likelier is that the note means the opposite. In fact, the spell itself even says “pay attention.” It is an adoration of some hermetic mystery that is supposed to be studied, important for a magician’s general career and would result in some form of redemption.

Betz claimed that the spell required a small gold lamella is to be used as a protective charm, containing the “hundred-lettered name” mentioned in the prayer. This is problematic as there are two names with 100 letters in the prayer. While Betz may be correct, the phrase “name on the gold leaf” may not be literal but a title of God.

I do not feel that this spell is exactly for protection but is to attune the magician’s sphere of sensation for other magical work. On its own, it is an attunement to the magician’s Higher Genius, but it can be used before any magical working to remind the magician who they really are. It raises consciousness. A gold-leaf talisman with the name on it would just be something that reminds the magician of this state throughout the ritual.

As I have done in the past, I have used Preisendanz as the base text and used a literal translation to get something more poetic, and which uses modern English. This was then checked by someone who is an expert on Ancient Greek to see I did not go too far away from the translation, although a couple of times I did change things. I have kept the magical words and titles in their original Greek.

I am calling it the Spell of Divine Reconciliation or Attunement but really it can be anything. Readers of my book “Helios Unbound” will know that I tend to equate Aion to the Higher Genius, who in Kabbalah is Adam Kadmon.

I changed the ending so it can be incorporated into a ritual.

Spell of Divine Reconciliation or Attunement

I invoke Aion, father of the Universe with my magic.

Come to me, the extractor of the divine fire from the waters of chaos, who filled the universe with air and separated the earth from the astral waters.

Pay attention to the wise words of those who know divine Necessity.

Daemons of Form, Spirit, Earth and Sea, accept my words as flaming arrows.

I am Human, God’s most beautiful creature having been fashioned from spirit, dew, and earth.

By my magic, I open the heavens and the universe understands my words.

Helios, Father of the World hears me

Aion who was formed from pure Primal essence hears me

For I invoke him by his great name, which is considered powerful holy and sacred by all the angels

AŌEU ĒOIAIOĒ UEŌA ŪORZARA LAMANTHATHRĒ KANTHIOPER GARŌHARTHRĒ MENLARDAPA KENTHĒR DRUOMEN THRANDRĒTHRĒ IABE ZELANTHI BER ZATHRĒ ZAKENTI BIOLLITHRĒ AĒŌ OUO ĒŌ OŌ RAMIATHA AĒŌ ŌĒŌ OŌO ŌAUŌ

[Insert intention] Protect me from imbalance and violence Lord, God of gods.

Universe’s Creator Lord, God of Gods

MARMARIŌ IAŌ

My words speak of your unsurpassable glory, Aion who created gods, archangels, and decans. Legions of angels stand by you and divine wisdom is your mirror:

IEOU ĒŌĒ IAĒAI ĒŌĒ OUEI

I invoke your hundred-lettered name, which extends your power from the heavens to the underworld. Liberate and redeem me, for your joy is in saving those who express you in matter.

ATHĒZE PHŌI AHAHA DAIAGTHI THĒOBIS PHIATH THAMBRAMI ABRAŌTH KHTHOLKHIL THOE OELKHŌTH HIOHŌĒMKH KHOHOMKH SAĒSI ISAKHKHOĒ IERŪTHRA OHOHOHOHO AIŌAI

I call upon Aion, the one upon the gold leaf, before whom the unquenchable lamp continually burns,

Great God,

the one who shines on the whole world, who radiates from Jerusalem.

IAŌ AIĒ IŌĒ ŌIĒ ŌIĒ IĒ AIŌAI AI OUŌ AŌĒ ĒEI IEŌ EUŌ AĒI AŌ AŌA AEĒI UŌ EIĒ AĒŌ IEU AEĒ IAIA IAŌ EU AEU IAĒ EI AAA III ĒĒĒ IĀ IŌĒ IAŌ

May the blessing of Aion descend upon me so that I may [state ritual intention].

Can these 100 names be written on parchment if one doesn’t have gold lamella or can one ignore the gold lamella and proceed with the rite simply? Is any phonetical resource for helping the pronunciation ?

    1. I have never written them down… also I am completely uncertain that the name was written down on gold leaf… it is implied, but at the same time the sentence reads like a description of the God or might be connected to another rite (like an initiation). That said using the spell as part of a ritual or on its own as a morning invocation seems to work with or without the names written down.
